Création institut thématique One Universe

Bonjour à toutes et à tous,

Nous avons le plaisir d’annoncer la création de l’Institut Thématique ‘One Universe’, dans le cadre de la stratégie scientifique déployée sur le site académique Lyon Saint-Étienne.

Cet institut a vocation à relier les grandes disciplines fondamentales — de l'infiniment petit à l'infiniment grand, de la matière inerte au vivant et aux sociétés — pour faire émerger une compréhension commune des liens qui structurent le monde. Nous voyons l’IT ‘One Universe’ comme un lieu de rencontres et d’échanges pour créer des liens entre disciplines au sein du milieu académique et, à terme, entre l’ensemble des acteurs académiques et extra-académiques intéressés par les thématiques développées.

Nous invitons toutes les personnes intéressées (ou curieuses !) – chercheur·euse·s, enseignant·e·s-chercheur·euse·s, étudiant·e·s du site Lyon-Saint-Etienne – à une première rencontre le 29 juin 2026 de 9h à 12h à la i-Factory.

Cette première rencontre sera l'occasion d'échanger autour :

• des ambitions de l'Institut Thématique One Universe,
• de la cartographie des activités de recherche concernées sur le site Lyonnais,
• des actions à venir et de la dynamique collective que nous souhaitons créer.

Et bien sûr de commencer à échanger avec des collègues d’horizons différents !

La présentation par les pilotes pourra être suivie en visio.

Néanmoins, une partie des échanges se fera en plus petits groupes autour d’un café donc il nous semble pertinent de choisir le présentiel si possible.

Hello everyone,

We are pleased to announce the creation of the One Universe Thematic Institute, as part of the scientific strategy developed across the Lyon–Saint-Étienne academic site.

The institute aims to connect the major fundamental disciplines — from the infinitely small to the infinitely large, from inert matter to living systems and human societies — in order to foster a shared understanding of the links that structure our world. We envision the One Universe Institute as a space for meetings and exchanges, creating connections between disciplines within academia and, ultimately, among all academic and non-academic stakeholders interested in the themes developed within the institute.
We warmly invite all interested (or simply curious!) researchers, faculty members, and students from the Lyon–Saint-Étienne site to a first gathering on June 29, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the i-Factory.
This first meeting will provide an opportunity to discuss:

• the ambitions of the One Universe Thematic Institute,
• the mapping of related research activities across the Lyon site,
• upcoming initiatives and the collective dynamic we hope to build.

And, of course, to start exchanging ideas with colleagues from diverse backgrounds!

The introductory presentation by the coordinators will also be accessible online.

However, part of the discussions will take place in smaller groups over coffee, so attending in person would be highly appreciated whenever possible.
